Dear Friends,

We have recently taken on a new school in a particularly run down area of Kinshasa. Ecole de Kintambo is an abandoned state run school and has become very dilapidated due to its exposure. However, since the school is structurally sound we would like to improve this school and make it accessible to more children in the area who are currently not attending school.

One of the main problems is the location of the school, as it is very central to a large community the outside of the school is used as a market place. Since there is no refuse collection within Kinshasa rubbish is left around and gets blown directly into the school grounds making it dirty and unsanitary. Children literally have to climb over the rubbish to get into the school.

The other problem is that the school has no way of stopping the public entering the school and so the school often vendalised, people enter the school to smoke drugs around classrooms while lessons are taking place. The school’s toilets are also used as public toilets and consequently have become a health hazard.

Various options have been considered and it has been decided that the only permanent long-term solution is to build a large wall with lockable secure gates to stop all waste and non-pupils from entering the school.

To build the wall, we need to raise £7500 therefore we are encouraging people to ‘Buy a Brick at £1 each to help with the funding of the wall, please help us with our appeal, £1 is a small amount but if we can all do a small bit we will be able to achieve great things together.

Thank you for showing an interest in our Buy-A-Brick Appeal.
